Yellowhead Helicopters Safety
The management and employees at Yellowhead Helicopters believe in a culture where the health and safety of all workers is an over-riding priority. We also believe that excellence in health and safety is important to our long-term success. The foundation for our safety program is a Transport Canada recognized SMS (Safety Management System) overseen by a dedicated Company Aviation Safety Officer. We are proud to be one of the very few helicopter operators in BC, and the only commercial helicopter charter service in the BC Central Interior, to be recognized by WorkSafeBC and the BC Forest Safety Council as "SAFE Certified". Certification was awarded after an independent auditor determined that our company had effectively implemented a health and safety management system. As a SAFE Company, we are committed to creating safe work sites and pursuing safety improvements for customers, vendors, and fellow employees.
We make extensive use of modern technology and employ industry best practices, enabling our team to provide clients with the safest and most efficient service possible. DATS (Digital Action Tracking System) is the web-based training and task management software used by our management team to assign and document training and job-related tasks to each employee ensuring that no job is allowed to "slip through the cracks". Also, to facilitate AFF (Automatic Flight Following) all of our aircraft are equipped with Spidertracks units that combine satellite tracking with Iridium based text communication. This allows our dispatchers to see real-time information pertaining to the location of each aircraft via a secure web page, and to communicate with our pilots without having to rely on a line-of-sight FM radio network.
Yellowhead Helicopters is subject to several yearly audits from a variety of customers and independent organizations and although they are time consuming and sometimes expensive, we welcome them as we are confident that we have the systems and infrastructure in place to meet and exceed the standards of any organization requiring our services. An Operational Risk Management policy is at the heart of our SMS program, and it requires that we complete a Risk Analysis prior to the start of every task we are asked to perform. This process can be limited to an individual team member or it can involve the entire company depending on the nature of the task associated. This is part of why our clients can expect the advantage of having the safest and most efficient solutions available to them.
The fact that we maintain a successful safety program is directly related to the hard work and dedication shown by our team of employees. We value employee satisfaction very highly and as a result all of our team members, many whom have been with us for 10 years or longer, take an active role in maintaining a safe work environment. We believe that all employees are collectively and individually responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment. Safety MUST come first, not only in manuals, documents and audit reports; but in a tangible and dynamic program that involves every member of our team, every single day.
